How to Host Thanksgiving in your New Home the Right Way

One of the greatest rewards of buying a home early in the year is having the opportunity to host friends and family for Thanksgiving. You have finished unpacking, your home has been fully decorated, and it is ready for entertaining! If you are a new homeowner who plans on welcoming guests into your new home for the holidays, check out Michele Harmon Team’s tips on hosting a memorable Thanksgiving.

Focus on Space

Planning early is essential when hosting friends and family in your home; and even more so for a holiday like Thanksgiving. Take an assessment of your home in regards to the space and the activities that will be taking place. Then, make a list of what needs to be done to welcome guests. It may be as simple as additional seating. Once you have a clear picture of what needs to be done, you can start prioritizing. If you recently moved into a fixer-upper and you have many things on your to-do list, do not be discouraged! Focus your time and energy on the spaces of your home that will get used the most when you have company, like the kitchen, living room, and bathroom.

Focus on the Meal

Once everything is planned for space, it is time to think about the food! Are you wanting to serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner or a more casual meal? The food you choose to serve may dictate where you will have guests sit, how much serving space you will need, and when you will need to start thawing the turkey. It is also helpful to think about how much food and drink you will need for your party size. Be sure you do not forget the ice, trash bags, and toilet paper!

Focus on the People

Remember, hosting Thanksgiving is more about the people you are thankful for than it is about the space or food. Becoming a homeowner is a significant life event and sharing that moment with the people who care about you the most is irreplaceable – and made better with an extra serving of pie!
