Tips to Protect your home from Covid-19

As we continue to face the challenges presented during COVID-19, it is important to protect your home from germs. Although it is best to continue to stay home in order to stay safe from this virus, we still have daily responsibilities that may require us to go out in public. Many Texas residents have returned to work and grocery delivery or curbside is not always available at the time we need it. In addition, we are still held responsible to take care of things like car maintenance and more. It is not completely feasible to stay home on months on end. With the stay home orders lifted, it is important to practice new habits to prevent this virus from entering your home. The Michele Harmon Team truly cares about the health and safety of our clients and would like to provide you with some tips on how to keep your home protected.

1.Take your shoes off

According to the CDC, the coronavirus dies on surfaces within hours to days. Thousands of people are found at the grocery stores and public places daily. We all are susceptible to picking up germs on our shoes. To be safe, take your shoes off in the garage or outside your door to avoid your shoes coming into contact with surfaces and objects in your home. As a bonus, you can also spray your shoes with a disinfectant to help kill the virus sooner than later.

2. Frequent Cleaning

Clean regularly with soap and water. This will decrease the amount of the virus on a surface and reduce your risk of exposure. If you are unable to find a disinfecting cleaner, a great alternative would be a DIY solution consisting of ⅓ cup of bleach and one gallon of water. Remember to clean frequently-used surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, phones, and keyboards.

3. Use hand sanitizer

There are times when soap and water are not readily available. In these situations, hand sanitizer is a great alternative. One good thing to practice is keeping hand sanitizer in your car. This way, as soon as you enter your car from a public place, you can reduce the amount of germs left on your hands.

4. Remove and Wash Clothes Immediately

As soon as you get home, remove your clothes and wash them in order to remove any possible germs and droplets that may have landed on your clothing while away from your home. The CDC recommends using hot water while washing and the highest heat setting possible on your dryer to completely kill the virus.

5. Practice healthy hygiene

It is more important now than ever to frequently wash your hands. An antibacterial soap is best for fighting off germs. Try to wash your hands immediately upon arriving home, after sneezing or blowing your nose, and especially after being in contact with a sick person.

In addition to following these tips, it is important to try to adhere to social distancing as we begin to continue our everyday lives. Try to maintain a six feet distance from people at the grocery stores and your workplace. The Michele Harmon Team is taking precautions by working from home and wearing masks at home showings.

Our homes should continue to be a place of comfort, safety, and security. Do you have any other tips to share that have helped you keep your home safe from Covid-19?
